Amisulpride (brand-name Solian®) is an antipsychotic drug sold by Sanofi-Aventis. Amisulpride is a selective dopamine antagonist. Its dosage ranges from 200 to 1200 mg/day. Lower doses (e.g. less than 50mg) have the opposite effect and actually increase dopamine transmission. For this reason, it is sometimes used off-label in the treatment of clinical depression in low doses and for psychosis in higher doses. As for now, amisulpride is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.
Side effects
Parkinsonism, nausea, weight gain, and less commonly QT interval prolongation (which can lead to serious heart arrhythmias).
