New Form Designed to Help Medical Journals Avoid Conflicts of Interest

The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, or ICMJE, is testing a new uniform disclosure form for reporting potential conflicts of interest among authors. The 14 journals that are ICMJE members, including the Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the New England Journal of Medicine, have adopted the form.
AMA Delegates Refer CEJA Report on Industry Funding of CME for Further Study

A new report by the AMA Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, or CEJA, that aims to guide physician-learners and CME providers in managing their relationships with industry requires further scrutiny, said delegates during the 2009 interim meeting of the AMA House of Delegates in Houston. Delegates subsequently voted to refer the report and its recommendations.
Physicians See Very Little Bias in Online CME, Says Survey

A recent survey of physicians who participated in both commercially and noncommercially supported online CME activities found that participants perceived little commercial bias associated with CME activities, regardless of the funding source.
AAFP Revamps Family Medicine Board Review Clinical Learning Package

The AAFP Division of Continuing Medical Education has completely revamped its CME Self-Study Family Medicine Board Review Clinical Learning Package for 2009-10. New features include online access to 90 new quiz questions, professionally edited content for greater ease in studying, and a compact and user-friendly package design featuring just one three-ring binder that contains all the media and text in the program.

The AAFP's online classroom, LearningLink, has launched the first activity of a new four-part CME series dubbed Type 2 Diabetes 2009. The initial activity, Highlights of Current Evidence and Clinical Recommendations, offers an overview of the disease and encompasses three webcasts.
