Growth and development
Growth is represented by an irreversible increase in dry mass of an organism, while development can be in the form of the following: a) Increase in cell number (through cell division) b) Increase in cell complexity (through differentiation) c) Increase in cell size (through taking up of water)
Negative growth is the situation where there is development though it registers a decline in the mass of the organism. It occurs when a plant starts to germinate.
